On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…..
A seething schizophrenic bunch of bastards from London who produce some of the most disgustingly sick death metal, drum and bass style. Buckle up Santa, it’s time to introduce you to...
Genre: Electronic-influenced Deathcore
Location: London
'Progressive,' for many metalheads, is a word that provokes vitriolic negativity, and not without just cause. For most people, this will bring to mind the phrases 'guitar virtuosity' or 'a drumming whirlwind' or some other pathetic statement to justify and euphemise what is basically self-indulgent wankery. However there are some bands to whom this term can be applied to in the correct sense: forward thinking and boundary pushing creativity. Ted Maul is one of those bands. Combining ferocious death metal attacks with tasteful doses of hardcore, and mentalist industrial drum and bass segments, they create what can only be described as a 'sonic shitstorm.'
It's no secret that at union black and UK Metal Underground we're huge fans of Ted Maul and that's why I'm so excited to see them make the calendar as one of our hottest UK metal bands. "I think I just did a little sex wee," says Lisa, editor of UK Metal Underground.
Uncle Ted formed at the beginning of 2003. Founding members GDrax and Casino took time finding the right players for Ted Maul so it wasn't until November 2004 that they made their debut live appearance opening for New York death metal kings Suffocation. Since then the band have gone on to appear with the likes of Deicide, Cataract, Akercocke, God Forbid, Anaal Nathrakh and Sikth.
The band mix death metal, hardcore, and drum 'n' bass to make sick music, struggling through the depression and self-induced stress and misery of London. In 2006 the band spent their summer with Fredrik Nordstrom and Henrik Udd at Fredman Studios in Gothenburg recording their debut album "White Label" which was released in September 2007. If the magazine reviews are anything to go by, Ted Maul are set to be one of the hottest bands of 2008.
TED MAUL ARE GOING TO INFILTRATE THE INSIDE OF YOUR INTESTINE.
Reviews
Taking elements from death Metal, grindcore, drum and bass and progressive rock, but unbelievably managing to weave it into something fresh, exciting and unclassifiable, the Ted have not so much made a mark on the map of UK Metal, they've actually just ripped it apart. Here stands the future of the UK underground movement; it won't be long before that ugly head comes kicking and screaming out of hell and rips apart the metal mainstream... Kledhead @ play.com
What other bands say about Ted Maul
"They personally grabbed me by the balls, ripped them off and sewed them back on again. Ripped them off again, shoved them into a blender and fed them to me through a straw. Then I heard their music and I loved that too." Shortsword, Anal Beard
